ABS stands for Anti-lock Braking System. It is a type of safety system that prevents the wheels of a vehicle from locking up during hard braking, which can cause the vehicle to skid out of control.

The ABS works by using sensors to detect when a wheel is about to lock up. If this happens, the ABS system will rapidly pulse the brake pressure to that wheel, allowing it to continue rotating and preventing the vehicle from skidding. This process is repeated multiple times per second until the vehicle comes to a stop or the driver releases the brake pedal.

The benefit of ABS is that it allows the driver to maintain better control of the vehicle during hard braking, even in slippery conditions or on uneven surfaces. This can reduce the risk of accidents and improve overall safety on the road.
